Our Teachers

Vyll’s teachers are trained in the Satyananda Yoga Nidra practice originated by the Bihar School of Yoga in India,
as well as therapeutic applications of this Yoga Nidra practice for a variety of health conditions. Extensive Yoga Nidra training from Swami Atmarupa of the Yoga Academy of North America and the Atma Center, and Atmadarshan and Nityatara of Dharma Kshetra Yoga enables Kristen and Peter to provide highly skilled Yoga Nidra practices for all.

Kristen Bihary

Kristen Bihary understands the challenges of working in complex organizations because she was there -- for nearly 40 years -- as a senior executive in Fortune 200 global corporations, a consultant, and a leader in nonprofit organizations. She’s seen both good and bad happen in those environments.

She knew that Yoga Nidra could be a force for good inside organizations.

Her belief in the power of Yoga Nidra goes back to a day when she found herself crying on her way to work. She realized something had to change. Unable to leave her job as the Corporate Communications officer of a multi-billion dollar global company, she knew that change would have to come from within herself.

Having heard about the benefits of yoga, she started attending classes at a local studio. Kristen enjoyed the positive effects of doing asana and pranayama. And she especially loved the way she felt after the Yoga Nidra practice that concluded each class.

Twenty years after her first Yoga Nidra experience, she’s bringing those benefits to businesses in Manhattan via Vyll, originally formed as her consulting practice, now the entity by which she teaches Yoga Nidra in the workplace, a full-circle symmetry of sorts.

Kristen is certified to teach basic Yoga Nidra, progressed/advanced Yoga Nidra and therapeutic applications of Yoga Nidra. Her teacher training includes study in ethics, Yoga Nidra modifications and adaptations, and Yoga Nidra for special needs and trauma. She completed extensive student teaching and continues to develop her skills with feedback from mentored teaching.

“Yoga Nidra transformed my sense of self and my approach to work and life, and I continue to develop personally from my practice,” says Kristen. “I want everyone to experience the benefits of Yoga Nidra!”

Peter Karow

Peter Karow is a long time practitioner of yoga and meditation. He is a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher and is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists as a Yoga Therapist. He has taught at the Integral Yoga Institute New York City since 2010.

In addition to his yoga practice, he is a licensed Physical Therapist and a Health Care Administrator who has worked in Health Care Administration for many years.

He is a certified Yoga for Arthritis teacher and has completed trainings in Yoga Therapy in Cancer and Chronic Illness (YCAT) and Therapeutic Yoga. He has extensive training and experience teaching Yoga Nidra, a gentle guided meditation practice suitable for practitioners of all ages and experience levels.

He is particularly interested in yoga as a vehicle for self-knowledge, healing and inner balance.

Says Peter: “Several years ago, I noticed that every time I took a yoga class, I would feel wonderful afterwards — serene with a deep sense of well-being, relaxed but energized and mentally focused — and I’d feel that way for hours. I realized it was the practice of Yoga Nidra done at the end of class that was responsible for this delicious feeling. At that point I fell in love with this simple, easy-to-do practice with so many benefits. Indeed, Yoga Nidra has changed my life in many positive ways that extend beyond the yoga mat. Since making this personal discovery, I have devoted much of my teaching career to sharing the beautiful gift of Yoga Nidra with as many people as I can.”
